Ce stage initie les participants à l’utilisation d’un environnement de programmation graphique dans le cadre d’une activité de compositeur, compositrice. Il propose la découverte et l’utilisation de l’interface d’OpenMusic, la création de patchs avec l’utilisation des éditeurs musicaux, la génération algorithmique de séquences musicales, une initiation à la formalisation musicale et l’utilisation de deux grandes classes de modèles utilisés dans la musique du XXe siècle, les modèles stochastiques ou de hasard et les modèles acoustiques, utilisés en musique dite spectrale. La formation alternera explications théoriques et réalisations pratiques sur ordinateur.
\r\nObjectifs pédagogiques
À l’issue de la formation, le stagiaire pourra utiliser les principales fonctionnalités d’OpenMusic (créer et ouvrir un workspace, charger une librairie). Il saura créer des patchs simples, représenter et jouer des séquences musicales avec les outils mis à disposition dans le logiciel (chord, chord-seq, voice, multi-seq, poly et maquette), importer et générer des fichiers MIDI et formaliser des problèmes musicaux simples. Le stagiaire aura acquis des bases conceptuelles et techniques de composition assistée par ordinateur pour la mise en pratique dans son travail d’écriture musicale.
Prérequis
Connaissances en solfège, lecture de notes et rythmes
Connaissances de base en mathématiques : arithmétique, géométrie (triangles, théorèmes de Pythagore et Thalès, symétrie, aires), notion de puissances, équations à une variable, statistiques... Maîtrise de la manipulation informatique sur Macintosh (OS X).

This video (in french) announces the upcoming release of Dicy2, a collection of agents and tools for the interactive generation of sequences that can be integrated into musical situations ranging from the production of structured material within a compositional process to the design of autonomous agents for improvised interaction.
\r\nThe library integrates scientific and musical research results accumulated through productions and experiments with Rémi Fox, Steve Lehman, the Orchestre National de Jazz, Alexandros Markeas, Pascal Dusapin, Le Fresnoy - Studio National des Arts Contemporains, Vir Andres Hera, Gaëtan Robillard, Benoît Delbecq, Jozef Dumoulin, Ashley Slater, Hervé Sellin, Rodolphe Burger, Marta Gentilucci... After having evolved research prototypes crystallizing the contributions of these various projects for several years, a collaborative work carried out during the year 2022 has led to the finalization of a release of Dicy2 for Max, and an associated plugin for Ableton Live.
\r\nDicy2 is a library of the Ircam Musical Representations team, designed and developed by Jérôme Nika, Augustin Muller (Max library), and Joakim Borg (Python generative engine / Gig RepMus API) in the framework of the ANR-DYCI2, ANR-MERCI, ERC-REACH projects directed by Gérard Assayag, and the Ircam \"UPI CompAI\" project. \r\nDepuis quinze ans, le jazzman multi-instrumentiste Bernard Lubat collabore avec Marc Chemillier et Gérard Assayag autour de systèmes informatiques favorisant la co-créativité improvisée humain-machine. En préambule à la parution d’un CD, la journée « Autour de Bernard Lubat » permettra d’entendre les interactions entre le musicien et le logiciel dans une rencontre articulant performances, conférences et discussions. Lubat y donnera son point de vue au fil d’une « enquête » sur ses conceptions de la musique et du monde.
\r\nEntouré de spécialistes de l’informatique musicale et des sciences de la complexité, il discutera de la place des technologies dans la société à l’heure où les démocraties sont confrontées à des algorithmes de manipulation de l’opinion. Il parlera aussi de son rapport au compositeur Pierre Boulez dont certaines œuvres seront exécutées à cette occasion. La journée se terminera par un atelier d’expérimentation totalement inédit. Bernard Lubat improvisera en duo avec un « Pierre Boulez virtuel » généré à l’aide des logiciels créatifs.

\r\n \r\nLe projet Ecouter l'Invisible de l'Atelier des Feuillantines consiste à faire collaborer des musiciens et des scientifiques afin de rendre sonores des objets mathématiques, formules, modèles, équations... difficiles à représenter visuellement. Si des formes musicales nouvelles en découlent, des techniques de composition anciennes peuvent également être convoquées pour écouter ces processus complexes.
\r\n \r\nLes données et les modèles mathématiques utilisés dans cette composition sont issus de mesures de salinité et de température effectuées par des satellites et des bateaux-drones mettant en évidence des enjeux cruciaux liés au réchauffement climatique.

\nThis issue welcomes contributions on new technological advances in electroacoustic feedback for music and composition, and their associated artistic/compositional results.
\nThe use of electroacoustic feedback nourishes the imagination of composers, sound designers, performers, software developers and luthiers since many years.
The conception of electroacoustic feedback control systems and its use within mixed music, electronic performances and sound installations has created a valuable repertoire. Musical needs were supported by innovative solutions in the hardware domain and in dedicated software solutions. New musical instruments based on the use of electroacoustic feedback have been designed to broaden the possibilities of expression and performance. Multimedia projects combine the concept of feedback on several dimensions. Parallel to this artistic path, the need to prevent unwanted feedback has required the implementation of increasingly high-performance circuits and software.
Music/Technology invites artists and scientists from all the world to submit papers about their experience with electroacoustic feedback in the following fields:

\nHe will delve into the use of Max MSP, a widely adopted visual programming environment within the new media arts community, as well as XP, the immersive sound design tool for Ableton Live that he developed. Special attention will be given to live demonstrations and real-time listening experiences.
\nThe session will continue with a short live performance where participants’ sounds will be spatialized and manipulated in real time within the auditorium’s sound environment using XP. Après Lubat/Sylvain Luc, Lubat/Louis Sclavis, Lubat/Michel Portal, la collection dialogique devient cyber-humaine. De ces expérimentations d’indiscipline collective en live et en studio, surgit l’impensable, l’impensé: une improvisation contemporaine naturelle-artificielle. Surviennent alors réflexions, discussions sur l’intelligence artificielle appliquée à la musique, les enjeux philosophiques, sociaux et créatifs de ces nouveaux jeux de musicalité. C'est là l'aboutissement de plus d'une décennie de complicité musicale, de recherche scientifique au plus haut niveau (désormais honoré par le très compétitif European Research Council Advanced Research Grant ERC REACH), d'expérimentations tous azimuts et de développement d'une série de logiciels qui ont véritablement changé le monde de l'IA musicale (Omax, somax, ImproteK, Djazz, DYCI2).
\r\nLe disque regroupe trois performances de cyber-improvisations jazz enregistrées à New York, Philadelphie (lors des festivals Improtech organisés par les auteurs) et Uzeste, et six expériences in-vitro en studio. Le livre contient 168 pages bilingues d'appareil critique et philosophique sur les enjeux de la création partagée entre humains et machines par Bernard Lubat, Gérard Assayag, Marc Chemillier, et le grand pionnier du domaine, George Lewis.

\r\nDans les jardins de la Grande Mosquée de Paris, des installations rendent audibles les 6 équations canoniques d'Al-Khwârizmî, les différentes approximations du nombre pi par les savants arabes, chinois, grecs, et rend audible des sphères à 4 et 5 dimensions. L'installation tire parti de la géométrie des jardins islamiques pour démontrer les différentes problématiques abordées et permet de comprendre et de raisonner musicalement et visuellement.

Barlow passed away in June 2023 at age 77. He was noted for his pioneering work in computer music and computational music theory. He also laid the ground for musical conceptionalism and his own direction of spectralism. His exceptional humor (which included countless variations of his own name) was deeply rooted in his heightened sense for language and semantic ambiguity. Born in Calcutta on December 27, 1945, into a Catholic and English-speaking enclave, he was educated in Western classical music, and didn’t have any exposure to Indian classical music traditions before age 18. Trained as a pianist, Barlow started composing at age 11, discovering contemporary music at age 15 through the offerings of the local Goethe institute. With a knack for mathematics and astrophysics, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in natural science but also taught music theory at the Calcutta Conservatory until, in 1968, he moved to Cologne, Germany to study with Bernd Alois Zimmermann and, after his teacher’s death in 1970, with Karlheinz Stockhausen. Clarence Barlow taught at the Darmstadt Summer Courses from 1982. He also taught computer music at the Cologne University of Music from 1984 and, from 1990, held several positions at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. From 2006 to 2019, he was Corwin Professor and Head of Composition at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Barlow began composing with computers in 1971 and developed complex software for algorithmic composition and music analysis. He has created around 70 instrumental and vocal works and around 35 electronic, electro-acoustic and multimedia works. His artistic work is accompanied by numerous text and book publications as author and editor. Barlow was a member of the Cologne-based Feedback Studio Verlag and co-founder of the Initiative Musik und Informatik Köln – GIMIK e.V.

Description
Open to artists of all practices and levels of expertise, this four-week course will cover various creative, commercial, and technical approaches to working with multidimensional sound for a range of interdisciplinary practices. This will include, but not be limited to, working with sound installations, soundscape compositions, musical performance and production, audiovisual works, virtual reality environments, game sound design, and immersive media technologies.
Participants will explore:
✣ The fundamentals of immersive soundscapes and spatial audio practices.
✣ Practical applications of Ambisonics, binaural, and Atmos tools.
✣ Techniques for constructing immersive soundscapes with a focus on space, place, and time.
✣ Compositional soundstaging, including convolution reverbs.
✣ Live spatial performance techniques using various instruments, controllers, and mapping.
✣ Developing multimedia spatial audio practices for interactive technologies, virtual reality, and game design.
The course will involve hands-on exercises, such as constructing immersive soundscapes, upmixing stereo projects for ambisonic environments, and experimenting with practical soundstaging. Each week, participants will have an opportunity to receive critical feedback on their work.
Experience with digital music production tools and Ableton Live is recommended.
This course will take place virtually via Zoom. All sessions will be recorded and made available to participants.

Organized as part of the European REACH project, the Improtech international workshop-festival is dedicated to combining the universal art of improvisation with digital intelligence cultures through a series of conferences, interdisciplinary workshops, installations, performances, and concerts. After traveling across three continents and bringing together leading figures in the field, Improtech returns to Ircam, one of its founders, for an edition that will focus on space and composition/improvidsation and pay tribute to American composer George Lewis, an essential reference in musical AI.
This year, Ircam will host Improtech concerts in its unique concert hall, Espace de projection, encouraging a triple synthesis: that of acoustic instrumental culture with the original interactive artificial intelligence developed by the REACH project, that of solo improvisation with writing for mixed ensembles, and finally that of spatialization and sound immersion, also renewed by creative AI. This groundbreaking combination, supported by leading artistic figures in composition, improvisation, performance, and technology, will undoubtedly create a dazzling version of this sixth Improtech.

A special dedicace this year is for George Lewis composer, pioneer of musical AI, and great inspirer of all our research projects on autonomous improvising agents. George presents a piece performed by Joelle Leandre and Miya Masaoka, with the SoVo system resulting from common research with REACH and composer and software engineer Damon Holzborn.
\r\nThe Who/Men from Ircam (Marco Fiorini, Mikhail Malt, Gérard Assayag, Manuel Poletti) along with Marc Chemillier and Sylvain Cadars will create a sonic space thanks to the cocreative AI tools from the REACH project.

PRESENTATION I
\nTitle: Amelie Nilles - Working as an independent artist in spatial audio : methods, challenges and sustainability
\nShort description: I will speak about my artistic practice in spatial audio, focusing on live performance situations, the tools I use, and the concrete realities of working with spatial audio as an independent artist. I will share reflections on what we call “immersion” and on the importance of mediation and training both for artists and technicians. Finally, I will discuss the role of the artist in today’s context and the place of immersive setups within current artistic and technological ecosystems.
\nBio: Based between Paris and Athens, Amelie Nilles is a composer of avant-pop music and a live performer, working with spatial audio. Explorer of experimental realms, she offers an aesthetic approach to spatialisation in her music. Under the guidance of composer Régis Renouard-Larivière, she honed her skills in electroacoustic composition, while she was simultaneously pursuing her Master's degree at Paris 8 University, delving into research exploring the spatial dimension of music. Constantly in the process of creating immersive sound environments, she crafts captivating soundscapes weaving together her voice, field recordings, electronic textures, and organic rhythms. In November 2021, she unveiled her debut EP, A croqué le fruit étrange, on Planisphère label, introducing listeners to her deeply personal and experimental universe, both dark and pop. Since then, she has performed live at various venues across Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Portugal and Slovenia ; has designed multichannel sound installations and immersive live performances, collaborating with diverse artists along the way.

\nBio: Polina Khatsenka (aka Mudaki) is an audiovisual artist, sound designer, and curator from Minsk, Belarus, currently based in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic. Her practice focuses on spatial sound, site-specific installations, and electroacoustic composition. She is pursuing a PhD at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University with the dissertation project \"Location vs. presence: aural perception as an existential tool in the digital age\". A founding member of the phonon~ collective, she co-organizes educational and artistic activities in quadraphonic, octophonic, and Ambisonic formats. Since 2021 she has taught the course Silence. This edition of IMPROTECH in Uzeste features three legends of free improvisation, Evan Parker, Joëlle Léandre and Roscoe Mitchell. The former appears in three situations: in a trio with virtuoso American violinist Mari Kimura and percussionist Laurent Mariusse, in a duo with his old companion Jean-Marc-Foussat on synthesizers, and in a double duo inviting, in addition to the latter, Joëlle Léandre and Gérard Assayag operating the Somax2 musical AI software for a machinic co-improvisation in the spirit of IMPROTECH. Joëlle Léandre performs a special Uzeste version of the REACHING OUT show that set the Centre Georges Pompidou alight in June, with IRCAM's \"Who/Men\" operating Somax2. Finally, Roscoe Mitchell, mythical figure of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, present for the first time in Uzeste, will play a duet with himself...
\r\nThis edition is also honored by the presence of two master keyboardists Benoit Delbecq and Jozef Dumoulin in their duo \"Plug & Play\", as well as the immense Malagasy zither virtuoso Justin Vali (who has played with Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush) in the \"Collectif Trans(e)-musical\" featuring Charles Kely Zana-Rotsy, another Malagasy guitar virtuoso, Lucas Lemoine electronics, Yves Chaudouët and Sabina Covarrubias visual improvisations, and Marc Chemillier at the controls of the Djazz musical AI software in the same spirit of experimentation that marks this festival.
\r\nIMPROTECH's \"American star\" is Mari Kimura, a violinist at the cutting edge of the instrument's technical and expressive capacities, and inventor of a unique device for capturing gestures and controlling digital processing. Mari will take part in the \"Rencontres du 7ème type\" adventure with three familiar figures in acoustic and digital instrument improvisation, Jean-Marc Montera (founder of the Groupe de Recherche et d'Improvisation Musicales de Marseille), Pierre Couprie and György Kurtag Jr.
\r\nJaap Blonk is a world-renowned figure in sound poetry and new vocality, freely exploring the possibilities of electronics and algorithms. With pianist Hervé Sellin, Django d'or, who has played and recorded with Michel Legrand, Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie and Dee Dee Dee Bridgewater, and filmmaker Nurith Aviv, collaborator of Agnes Varda, France's first female cinematographer and a renowned figure of experimental documentary cinema, Jaap diabolically embodies Georges Bloch's open multimedia piece \"Paris bout-à-bout en abyme\".
\r\nThe Uzest fiber is active in IMPROTECH with André Minvielle (in duet with guitarist Camel Zekri, who synthesizes African traditions such as the Diwan of Biskra and free improvisation with technology), the Bernard Lubat quartet, Sylvain Luc, Marc Chemillier and Gérard Assayag in their now classic performance \"Lubax Lux\", articulating in a frenzied whirlwind instrumental improvisation and machinic (machiavellian?) elaborations.
\r\nAs always, IMPROTECH welcomes the young scene, with live-coders (Raphaël Forment and Rémi Georges) projecting the code of their constructions in real time, the Italian school of Marco Fiorini (one of the Who/Men), Francesco Diodati and Lorenzo Colombo, young musicians at the frontiers of instrumental and digital intelligence, Rob Frye and Turner Williams, other guests from America exploring new electric lutheries in resonance with the brilliant percussionist Laurent Mariusse already mentioned. Mariusse is no stranger to the repertoire of twentieth-century composers and contemporary music, yet he is also a keen explorer of improvisation and digital interaction.
\r\nSpecialists in this so-called \"savante\" music (improvisation is savante in another sense) Benny Sluchin of the Ensemble Intercontemporain founded by Pierre Boulez, Pavlos Antoniadis, virtuoso pianist and researcher at the University of Thessalonica, and Mikhail Malt, one of IRCAM's Who/Men, put improvisation on a new plane by instituting it as a versatile and infinite extension of this repertoire, notably by Xenakis and Cage, but also by Eliane Radigue and Pauline Oliveiros.
\r\nSaxophonist and composer Maciek Lasserre invites his Wolof pro-verb partner, Senegalese rapper Gaston Bandimic, for a duo combining sampling, contemporary jazz writing and experimental rap. Both are members of MCK Projekt and the avant-rap collective Sélébéyone (led by Steve Lehman, a major musician on the new American jazz scene).
\r\nA herald of the young Marseille scene, Cyril Benhamou (flute, keyboards) attempts an impromptu fusion with composer and digital performer Stylianos Dimou, clarinettist Jean-Brice Godet and the inevitable Laurent Mariusse. Shlomo Dubnov, researcher and composer, attempts a fusion of the latest results in generative AI and performance.

Cette année 2022 est le centenaire de la naissance de Iannis Xenakis. Divers évènements commémorent cet anniversaire, notamment une magnifique exposition à la Cité de la Musique. Iannis Xenakis, ingénieur diplômé de l’École polytechnique d’Athènes, architecte auprès de Le Corbusier, compositeur novateur, s’est beaucoup appuyé sur les mathématiques pour ses créations musicales, et a été précurseur dans l’usage de l’informatique.
\r\n<big class=\"\">Cette journée d’études, organisée par le Centre d’analyse et de mathématique sociales (CAMS), portera sur Xenakis, les mathématiques et l’informatique, ceci dans un contexte particulier. En effet, en 1966, Xenakis crée l’Equipe de Mathématique et Automatique Musicale (EMAMU), équipe parrainée et hébergée par le Centre de Mathématique Sociale de Georges Théodule Guilbaud, Centre qui deviendra l’actuel CAMS. La journée sera l’occasion de montrer des innovations musicales récentes menées au CAMS et à l’IRCAM, prolongeant grâce à l’intelligence artificielle des voies ouvertes par Iannis Xenakis.

An online demonstration of Trajectory Score Library : A Tool for Algorithmic Spatialisation with Antescofo will be held during the Journée d'Informatique Musicale 2020.

\r\nTrajectory Score Library is an Antescofo library of scripts, converting mathematical parametric functions into curves in order to control the Spat5 sources trajectories. These scripts are written in the Antescofo language, a timed synchronous language which allows the use of relative time to synchronize the trajectories with musical events. This language can also provide a convenient way of creating and transmitting automation parameters to the Spat5 through the Open Sound Control protocol implemented in Antescofo. Trajectory Score Library is an additional tool amongst existing spatialization solutions. In the context of this presentation these solutions are considered as remote-control software. Trajectory Score Library thus aims to use Max as a unified real-time environment to gather different computer music processes.

Au cours de la formation, grâce à la compréhension du traitement du son et des algorithmes de synthèse, les participants apprendront à développer des patches en PureData permettant d'explorer et de concevoir des outils de production personnels.
\r\nObjectifs pédagogiques
À l’issue de la formation, les stagiaires seront capables d'intégrer le code qu'ils ont développé avec PureData dans leur chaîne de production grâce à Camomile. Cet outil permet de convertir un patch PureData en un plug-in de traitement du son ou d’instrument virtuel compatible avec les principaux standards professionnels. Ils pourront, par exemple, transformer leur patch en un plug-in VST (Virtual Studio Technology) pouvant être intégré dans un DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) tel que Ableton Live

\nSeit im Jahre 2014 die Komponistin Tanja Brüggemann 10 Jahre durchgehender Datenaufzeichnungen der PALAOA Unterwasserhorchstation der Antarktis des AWI-Alfred Wegener Instituts vom PI Dr. Lars Kindermann erhielt, entstanden eine Reihe von interdisziplinären - transmedialen Kompositionen, deren Abschluss AOA IX bildet.

Im Zyklus AOA beschäftigte sich die Komponistin mit der Kommunikation der marinen Säugetiere, wie deren Reaktion auf natürliche, als auch menschliche Einflüsse. Unter den natürlichen findet sich Lärm beim Abbrechen des Schelfeises, Zusammenstossen von Eisbergen, aber auch zartes Singen des Eises oder das Rauschen des Windes an der Eisoberfläche. \nAOA IX versucht die Desorientierung durch Lärmverschmutzung im antarktischen Meer erfahrbar zu machen und dem tiefstfrequenten vokalisierendem Säugetier der Erde - dem Blauwal - eine Stimme zu geben. Das Interval seiner Vokalisation beträgt das eines Tritonus‘.
\nÜber die Jahre hinweg belegen die Daten der PALAOA Horchstation einen Frequenzabfall der Vokalisation der Blauwale.
\nAOA IX lässt als Protagonisten 2 Kontrabässe im Rahmen des Tritonus in einen Dialog treten, umgeben von Originlaufnahmen der Antarktis, sowie den zunehmenden - die Kommunikation überdeckenden Geräuschen und Frequenzen menschlicher Einflüsse, welche sich auch anhand der gemessen Daten darstellen lassen.
