Workshop - Generative music with Ircam software by Guillaume Piccarreta

This workshop will delve into the possibilities of generative music using state-of-the-art tools developed at IRCAM: Somax2, and RAVE, each of which harnesses artificial intelligence and machine learning to transform musical creation and improvisation.

This workshop will delve into the possibilities of generative music using state-of-the-art tools developed at IRCAM: Somax2, and RAVE, each of which harnesses artificial intelligence and machine learning to transform musical creation and improvisation.

Somax2

Somax2 is a powerful tool for real-time musical improvisation and composition, based on a generative AI model. It employs machine listening, a cognitive memory activation model, and a multi-agent architecture, allowing the software to interact autonomously with musicians or be manually controlled. With support for both audio and MIDI, Somax2 can generate improvisations that adapt to the external musical context while adhering to a chosen stylistic corpus. It serves as both a flexible smart instrument and a collaborative partner for musicians.

RAVE

RAVE (Realtime Audio Variational autoEncoder) is a neural network-based tool for real-time audio synthesis. Its variational autoencoder architecture allows for high-quality waveform generation with minimal latency, perfect for interactive applications. RAVE can be used within Max MSP and Pure Data with nn~ for real-time sound generation and transformation. A VST plugin makes it easy to use it in any DAW.

During the workshop, participants will follow live demonstrations and explore how these tools can enhance their creative processes by generating, transforming, and interacting with musical material in innovative ways.
