NYU Course Semester at IRCAM

Presented during the IRCAM Forum @NYU 2022

Each year, for one year, 10 young composers from all over the world are selected in order to follow the program of composition and acquire real, technical autonomy with a number of computer programs. At the end of the program the students have to compose à mixed music using a multitude of forms: solo musician and electronics, an electroacoustic work, a sonic installation, or including other media such as dance, text, or images presented in concert at the beginning of the season in September.

This course is aimed at students of NYU music technology and composition. A semester of fourteen day-long sessions focused primarily on sound design and composition in real time with Max (Cycling ’74 / IRCAM), including sessions with IRCAM software such as ASAP and Partiel and/or Antescofo, and presentations from IRCAM’s R&D departments. Students are expected to do a project using Max: a real-time composition, performance, installation or audio tool that will be presented at the end of the semester.
