Randall Packer is an interdisciplinary media artist and composer. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area during the social revolution of the 60s, Packer’s sensibilities were shaped by the period’s counterculture, which infused his work with an exploratory spirit and a penchant for challenging conventional forms. Trained as a composer at the California Institute of the Arts (MFA) and the University of California, Berkeley (PhD), Packer expanded his artistic practice to include collaborative work in dance, performance, visual art, and new media. Packer’s work continually blurs artistic boundaries, as well as probing the liminal spaces between humor and seriousness, the real and the virtual. During the past five years, most notably during the pandemic, Packer established the Third Space Network (3SN) as an internationally acclaimed platform for online performance. For his recent Internet works he has received grants and awards from the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities and the UK Arts & Humanities Research Council, and has partnered on projects with the Washington Project for the Arts, Leonardo, American University, and the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company.
