The 5th festival-workshop for improvised music and digital intelligence, co-organised by Ircam, will be welcoming a number of exceptional personalities including the prince of contemporary jazz Steve Lehman, Jim O'Rourke, ex-Sonic Youth and a legend of the international avant-garde, Joëlle Léandre, the double bass diva, Lara Morciano, a daring explorer in the genre of mixed compositions, the great Madagascan zither virtuoso Justin Vali, as well as Japanese artists Suguru Goto, composer and director of the Geidai centre for creativity, Michiyo Yagi, who is renewing the art of the koto in contemporary electronic aesthetics, Mari Kimura, violin prodigy and specialist in gestural interactions, Akira Sakata, a much-loved veteran of the Japanese free music scene, and many other remarkable figures in research and creation.

Miller Puckette, inventor of Max and winner of the Silver Lion at Venice, will also be giving a keynote and a musical performance with his playmate, percussionist Irwin, who is well known on the electronic scene.

The workshops and lectures will cover a vast panorama, from advanced automatic learning and listening to gestural and spatial control, from software environments to creative artificial intelligence, without avoiding the aesthetic and epistemological questions inherent in the exercise.
