Breathing.Systems: Collective & Movement-based Spatial Sound Performance

Presented during the IRCAM Forum @NYU 2022

Breathing.Systems is a spatial sound performance using a wireless, low latency multichannel sound system; with speakers worn on the bodies of performers, spatialising live singing through choreographed movement. By using spatial relationships and movement of bodies to spatialise a voice and sound, Breathing.Systems foregrounds the body and relational quality of sound, positing a relational approach to spatialisation.

Nik Rawlings invites IRCAM Forum members to become co-performers in this workshop, with participants wearing the Breathing.Systems speakers and collectively creating short, choreographed sound spatialisations in a combined listening and performing exercise.
