“Ocean Data Voyage”
From Big Data to Cross-Pacific Ensemble
The concert features an Internet ensemble of musicians in Taipei and California. The signals that they send across the ocean will be using signals from the ocean itself. The ocean's physical state monitored by computer provides the performers with the data they'll play, for example, tides, temperature, chemistry and the atmosphere above. All of the compositions on the program will feature "big data" put to music in a process called "sonification" and we've formed the largest sonification "big band" ever to hit the stage for this show. - Chris Chafe
