A look back at our Forum workshops at Image Sonore Festival 2024

July 19 and 20, 2024, we were invited by the Image Sonore Festival to the castle de Bussy-Rabutin to run workshops and demonstrate Forum software.

Discovering and getting started with IRCAM Forum software at the Image Sonore Festival

We were able to meet and talk with artists programmed at the Festival (Alexandre Bazin, VAPA, Eric-Maria Couturier, Nadia Struiwigh, Franck Berthoux, Romane Santarelli and YOTTA), as well as sound engineers, DJs, music production and sound design amateurs, and those simply curious about the possibilities offered by today's world of computer-assisted sound creation.

Guillaume Piccarreta presented the various IRCAM Forum technologies (Virtual Choir, Melodic Scale, Partiels, etc.) and in particular ASAP and RAVE, of which he gave several demos and even an accompanied hands-on!

RAVE (Realtime Audio Variational autoEncoder) is an audio processing and generation tool that uses deep learning to create fast, high-quality audio models, running 20 times faster than realtime at 48 kHz. Accompanied by the nn~ decoder for Max and Pd, it enables applications such as audio generativity, transformation and timbre transfer.

ASAP is a set of audio plug-ins for creative sound transformation. It invites you to play with sound representation and synthesis parameters to generate new sounds. Plug-ins can also be used to correct sound defects and improve audio rendering. ARA2 integration enables spectral transformations to be incorporated into editing workflows.

After the afternoon's workshops, we enjoyed the show, with electronic sets and a classical concert, as well as video mapping by Cie Enlight on the façade of the 17th-century chateau of Bussy-Rabutin.
